Hello all
is it possible to use Marklin 60880 (s88) for sensing tracks with the "can digital-bahn project"? This has to work in conjunction with an MS2, gleisbox, startpunkt, pc-schnitte and PC with either RR ot TC.
Thanks in advance

Hi Manos, welcome to the forum!
Actually, the CAN-modules are not to be mixed up with s88-components, but if you have the MS2, then you can use the CC-Schnitte as interface between MS2, Gleisbox and computer and separately from that a HSI for connecting the s88 to the computer on which runs either RR or TC and then the software can combine both circuits again.
In my humble opinion better would be using GleisReporters instead of Marklin 60880, but this is something that depends on your choice.
Kind regards,
LG

Thank you very much for both welcome and info.
I do have the same idea but I was trying to see if I can cut some costs since I have access to some used s88 which I can get cheap. I certainly prefer the can bus philosophy since messages come and go when there is action and you do not have to poll the decoder to find out what has happen and also create unnecessary traffic. My only concern was that the CAN-module has 8 inputs and I see that some software use awkward ways to handle it since most are dealing with Marklin's 16 inputs.
What I have now is some locos and MS2 and since I am computer oroiented person I wish to go that way instead of a more elegant controller.
One last comment, you mentioned RR or TC which are the two programs I would like to use. I know this is not an easy answer but which one would you suggest (TC silver edition). No need for much explanations as briefly as possible...
Thanks again

Hello Manos,
well, in general there is not problem at all because of the difference of 8 or 16 inputs. Within the CAN-system every message has got a distinct address which contains the input-number and so it can be easily recognized by the software.
I apologize but unfortunately I have no experience with RR and TC, but in general I think it is best to test the software or its’ demo and then to decide which one suits better to one’s preferences.
Best regards,
LG
